Aston Villa defender Carlos Cuellar admits seeing Spain lift the World Cup trophy has made him even more determined to break into the national team.
The 28-year-old versatile Spaniard has not been capped for his country as yet at any level, although has often been linked with a call-up.
Cuellar watched Spain triumph over Holland in South Africa as a 1-0 win over the Dutch secured World Cup glory for the first time in their history.
He admits that it will be difficult to disrupt a back-line that only conceded seven goals throughout the tournament, but is more determined than ever.
"I have had contact with the Spanish Football Federation during the past year,"Cuellar said.
"It was always going to be tough to break into the squad because they won Euro 2008.
"But I want to play for Spain and I was so proud of the lads the other night and they have been terrific throughout the World Cup.
"It was a fantastic achievement and it will be even harder to break into the squad now.
"But I will give it everything, try my best and have the same intensity and determination to try and achieve it."
Andres Iniesta got the telling goal in Soccer City, and Cuellar admits he was delighted to see the extra-time strike fly in.
He added:"I watched it in Birmingham with a host of Spanish people. They went crazy and were jumping into the canal after the game.
"The atmosphere was really good, like being in Madrid - although I wasn't tempted to jump in as well!"
