Wheater just so lucky | Football News | Sky Sports

David Wheater has admitted he is lucky to be going to Wembley to play in the FA Cup final with Bolton.

The central defender, who joined the club in January from Middlesbrough, will deputise for the injured Zat Knight in the semi-final against Stoke, but he is well aware of the role Lady Luck played in getting him to this point.

Wheater was set to play against Burton in the FA Cup third round in early January - which would have cup tied him - before he was dramatically pulled out by Tony Mowbray.

"I am very fortunate I wasn't actually cup-tied and been in the same position as Daniel Sturridge,"Wheater told theBolton News.

"Over the years at Middlesbrough, they always played their strongest sides in the cup.

"It was that one lucky time I didn't play. I certainly didn't ask not to be picked. I came in with my tracksuit on the Friday ready to play before the manager (Tony Mowbray) pulled me after training.

"The manager told me that the deal had been done so I wasn't travelling to Burton. He told me to take the weekend off."

Cahill enjoys England honour | Football News | Sky Sports

Bolton defender Gary Cahill admitted it was a 'great honour' to make his first England start in Tuesday night's friendly against Ghana.

The 25-year-old has long been touted for full international honours and already has two caps after substitute appearances under Fabio Capello against Bulgaria and Denmark.

The former Aston Villa centre-back acquitted himself well as he played the full 90 minutes, regularly stifling the Black Stars' attack and coming close to scoring himself.

Cahill admitted the performance was tinged by the disappointment of Asamoah Gyan's late equaliser in the 1-1 draw, but was keen to take the positives from his Wembley start.

Prepare

"I've got two other caps, obviously in different circumstances, so it was nice to play from the off and get a full 90 minutes under my belt,"he said.

"Obviously it was a great honour and I thoroughly enjoyed it, although I am obviously a little disappointed that we conceded late on.

"Knowing that you're starting, I kind of like, because you can prepare for the game, while when you come on as a sub it is difficult to get to grips with the pace of the game.

"But like I say, I was over the moon to get the nod having watched the game from the stands on Saturday.

"You want to get yourself out there and kick the ball around and it was a great honour to get 90 minutes."

Pleased

Despite the late equaliser, Cahill was one of the stand-out performers in a second-string England side alongside the likes of Ashley Young and Stewart Downing.

The trio will have undoubtedly boosted their claims for a regular place in Capello's side with their performances, and the defender believes the team can take positives from the draw.

"I was pleased with my performance,"he said."During the game I thought first half we dominated and second half they got into it a little bit more and obviously we're disappointed to concede late on.

"But I think there were a lot of positives to take out of the game and I was pleased with my overall performance."

Lampard admits axe fear | Football News | Sky Sports

Frank Lampard has admitted he feared he was going to be axed by England coach Fabio Capello for the clash with Wales.

It was widely suggested Lampard could lose his place in the starting line-up as Capello looked to use Jack Wilshere and Scott Parker in midfield.

However, Chelsea star Lampard started alongside the duo and scored the opening goal from the penalty spot in England's 2-0 win in Cardiff.

Lampard insists the quality of the England squad means no player can be guaranteed a place in the starting XI.

"I was aware of all the talk. I tried not to let it concern me,"said Lampard.

"It is a good squad, a strong squad and never for any minute should anyone be resting on their laurels about getting picked.

"I have been around for a long time so it wasn't a sleepless night but obviously I want to play and contribute. So I tried to work hard in training and give my best all the time."

Form&Fitness

Lampard's season has been disrupted by a groin injury, but the 32-year-old feels he is now reaching his best form of the campaign.

"I think I am coming back to my best form after a difficult season,"added Lamapard.

"I have missed half of it and never really had that kind of break before.

"But in the last few games for Chelsea I have started to feel as fit as I had beforehand.

"That's a lovely feeling to have back because I was out a long time and that is frustrating. But now, I'm feeling really good.

"When you get back, you have to get used to the fact that you might have certain niggles after having such a bad injury.

"I'm getting to the other side of them now and feeling like I don't go into games worrying about the groin or anything else. I just worry about trying to play."

Doyle hit by injury blow | Football News | Sky Sports

Kevin Doyle could miss the rest of Wolves' battle to stay in the Premier League after suffering a knee injury during the Republic of Ireland's win over Macedonia.

The striker was replaced just 20 minutes into Saturday's Euro 2012 qualifier and could now be sidelined for the next two months.

Ireland coach Giovanni Trapattoni revealed that Doyle has damaged his medial ligaments and is facing a fight to return to action this season.

"It's his medial ligament,"said Trapattoni."I think he may be out for one or two months, so it's a very serious injury.

"But I hope by May or June, he can come back and we can have him for the match in Macedonia."

If the extent of the injury is confirmed, Doyle's absence would be a major blow to Wolves' hopes of staying in the Premier League.

Though Doyle has only scored five goals in the league this season, he is a vital cog in Mick McCarthy's plans to beat the drop.

Gers eye future starlets | Football News | Sky Sports

Rangers youth coach Billy Kirkwood is confident the club will produce the Scotland stars of the future.

The Under 19s boss has seen a number of players progress from the academy ranks, with Liverpool defender Danny Wilson the most recent to make the breakthrough at international level.

Kirkwood believes Kyle Hutton, Gregg Wylde and John Fleck will all have a part to play for Scotland after making a reputation for themselves at Ibrox.

He said:"Craig Levein said, when he was at Cowdenbeath, he looked five years ahead all the time, he kept on looking down the line.

"We think we have got a good batch of young lads at Rangers. Danny Wilson, for example, left and went to Liverpool.

"We are hoping players like Hutton, Wylde and Fleck can break through and we can watch them at national level.

"I would be delighted to watch these lads play for Scotland in five years time and that's the challenge they've got.

"First and foremost, it's a regular place in the Rangers first team and then taking the step up to Scotland."

Kirkwood admits young players at Rangers now have a great opportunity to stake a claim due to financial constraints at the club preventing the Light Blues from spending cash.

"From the first team manager down to us in the youth department, we appreciate the financial restraints at the club,"he added.

"We have always said to the lads that this is their best opportunity to grab a chance. If they get an opportunity, they've got to be ready for it. To be fair to the lads so far, they have been ready for it.

"I think they will get the opportunities and it's up to the lads to take those opportunities.

"Some of them get hand picked to go and train with the first team.

"If they do well on those days, then they get the opportunity to play in reserve games or friendlies or sit on the bench.

"If there is an injury or suspension, with they way the club is at the moment, they go on the pitch and grab their chance."

Spearing inspired by Dalglish | Football News | Sky Sports

Liverpool youngster Jay Spearing claims he has been inspired by the impact of manager Kenny Dalglish.

The 22-year-old midfielder has been given an important job in the first-team squad since Dalglish's return to Anfield back in January, and since the Scot's comeback the Reds have produced a number of impressive results.

Spearing was only used in Europa League and Carling Cup matches under former boss Roy Hodgson but is flourishing under his new boss.

The local lad admits he is brimming with confidence and is delighted to be more regularly involved.

"The new manager has given me a lot of confidence,"he said in theDaily Mirror.

Belief

"He started me in the derby at Anfield in one of his first games and he has shown he has belief in me. He knows what I can do.

"Any player that has the confidence of the manager gets a massive boost.

"It has just made me want more. I have been in and around the first team for a few years but I'm regularly involved now."

Spearing played a prominent role in Liverpool's Premier League victory at Sunderland last weekend, winning a controversial penalty for the opening goal during the 2-0 win.

Captain Steven Gerrard sent him a congratulatory text message following the Black Cats triumph and Spearing admits it spurs him on to keep performing.

"To receive something like that from someone who has done so much is a massive boost. That proved I could play at this level,"he added.

"I have to pay that back now and keep it going."

Sinclair hails Swans switch | Football News | Sky Sports

Scott Sinclair is delighted to have finally put down roots and is now setting his sights on promotion.

The winger completed a switch to Swansea last summer after becoming disillusioned with life as a wandering loan star.

A spell at Premier League giants Chelsea left him frustrated, with his route to the Stamford Bridge first-team blocked at every turn.

It quickly became apparent that he needed to settle somewhere, with a succession of short-term deals doing him few favours.

The Swans offered him the opportunity he craved and he has been a revelation for the Welsh outfit this season.

Targets

His goals have helped to put Brendan Rodgers' side in the thick of a promotion battle, with just one point separating them from the top two in the Championship.

Sinclair hopes he can put the seal on a memorable year by clinching a Premier League place with Swansea, before heading off on international duty with England's U21s at this summer's European Championship.

"It would be the best summer if I could get promoted with my club and win the Championship,"he said.

"I've had seven loan deals and I was fed up of going on loan and not being settled.

"When you go on loan, you're not really part of that team and you go back and you never really know what's going to happen, so I thought it was best for me to go and get some football."

Levein trusts Scots squad | Football News | Sky Sports

Scotland boss Craig Levein insists he has complete trust in his players not to step out of line during their time at La Manga.

Levein and his squad have jetted out to the Spanish resort ahead of Sunday's clash with Brazil for a combination of training and team bonding.

The players have been allowed to enjoy themselves in the sun and, almost two years after the 'boozegate' controversy when Allan McGregor and Barry Ferguson were banned from the national team, Levein insists he can rely on to conduct themselves appropriately.

He toldSky Sports News:"I'm in a position with this group of players now where I do have trust in them.

"You've got to trust senior professionals and guys who are professional athletes. They understand what the game's all about. They can relax and enjoy themselves.

"There haven't been any situations I've had to concern myself with and I knew that would be the case."

Enjoy

Levein added:"A lot of the players know each other and they've played at clubs together but they don't all know each other.

"Especially some of the quieter ones, the newer players, the younger lads, it's really important they feel comfortable in each other's company and in the company of the more experienced players as well.

"So the idea behind it is to put themselves in a situation where they're going to enjoy themselves. Who couldn't enjoy themselves here?"

Former Dundee United and Hearts boss Levein also revealed there could be an addition to the squad ahead of the Emirates Stadium clash with Brazil.

"We have had call-offs and areas in the team that are a bit more threadbare than others,"he said.

"There is a possibility that later on this week I might make moves to bring another player in."

Gibson - No Trap problem | Football News | Sky Sports

Manchester United midfielder Darron Gibson insists he has no problem with Republic of Ireland boss Giovanni Trapattoni.

Gibson, who has been included in the Republic squad for the Euro 2012 qualifier against Macedonia and the friendly clash with Uruguay, has seen his future at United questioned by Trapattoni.

Trapattoni has openly advised Gibson to leave United for regular first-team football elsewhere, but the 23-year-old is determined to establish himself at Old Trafford.

No problem

Despite their conflicting views over his club situation, Gibson insists there is no bad air between the pair.

"I can see where he is coming from,"Gibson toldskysports.comat an event promotingEA SPORTS FIFA 11 Ultimate Team.

"Obviously he wants me to play every week so that he can get the best out of me when I play for Ireland but it's not happening at the minute so both of us have just got to deal with it.

"There have been no bad words between us or anything. There is no bad air between the both of us. It is just the way things are.

"If I can get in to the Manchester United team I will play for Ireland - that's the way I see it.

"So if I am playing every week for United I will play for Ireland so my main aim at the moment is to try and get in the United team every week."

Gibson scored his first goal for the Republic in last month's Carling Nations Cup win over Wales and the midfielder admits it was a relief to break his international duck.

Relief
"It was a bit of relief to be honest with you,"added Gibson.

"As obviously I have played in quite a few games now and I have not really made an impact so it was nice to score and obviously scoring from 30 yards out made it even better."

Republic of Ireland take on Macedonia this weekend in Dublin and Gibson knows they need to win to keep their Euro 2012 bid on track.

"Macedonia is a massive game as I think we need the points,"noted Gibson.

"We have got a good squad and a good group of players so I don't see if we play well why we cannot qualify.

"I think we are in a great position in the group at the minute so hopefully we can qualify for the Euros."

Leeds United's Max Gradel could win his first international cap after being called into Ivory Coast's squad to play Benin next Saturday.

"It's good for the players and it's good for the club that players are being recognised for an opportunity in international football,"manager Simon Grayson told the club'sofficial website.

Jarvis admits 'dream' call | Football News | Sky Sports

Wolves winger Matt Jarvis admits it is a 'dream' to have been called up to the England squad.

The 24-year-old midfielder has been named in Fabio Capello's party for the Euro 2012 clash with Wales on Saturday and the friendly tie with Ghana at Wembley.

Jarvis has been in fine form for the Molineux outfit this season and scored the winner as his side beat Aston Villa 1-0 at the weekend.

He becomes the first Wolves player in nearly 20 years to earn a Three Lions call since Steve Bull appeared on the international stage in 1991.

Jarvis is over the moon to have been selected by Capello and has vowed to make an impact and earn some time on the pitch.

"It was great to get the call tonight[Sunday] confirming I am in the squad,"he told Wolves'official website.

Impress

"I'm delighted as you would expect and to be honest it's difficult to put into words at the moment.

"I'd been named on standby for a few of the games this season so it's great that this time I've finally made it into the squad.

"Like every play it's been a dream of mine to try and play for England since starting off in the game and getting into the squad takes me one step closer.

"I'll enjoy the news tonight and am really pleased but from there it will be a case of joining up tomorrow and trying to impress and do everything I can to get some time on the pitch."

Jarvis scored a fine goal for Wolves at Villa Park on Saturday to ease Mick McCarthy's relegation fears at the bottom of the Premier League.

He added:"It just rounds off a great weekend for me having scored the winner against Aston Villa and I'm really looking forward to joining up with the squad."

Hughes 'open' to contract talks | Football News | Sky Sports

Fulham manager Mark Hughes would be 'open' to discussions regarding a contract extension at Craven Cottage.

The Welshman has been reported as a possible successor to Louis van Gaal at Bayern Munich, where he spent time on loan as a player in the 1980s.

Van Gaal is set to leave the Allianz Arena at the end of the season after a disappointing domestic and European campaign and it has been suggested that the German giants are interested in Hughes.

The 47-year-old only signed a two-year contract with Fulham when he took over last summer and he has admitted to being flattered by the Bayern stories, but he has indicated that he is happy in London.

"I like those types of conversations, to be perfectly honest,"he said when asked about a possible contract extension.

"If the club feel I'm doing a good job and that's what they want to do then certainly I'm open to those discussions.

Capacity

"We just need to get this season out the way and maybe we can sit down and speak about those things."

Hughes' next task as Fulham boss is Saturday evening's trip to Everton in the Premier League.

Ahead of the match the manager has believes that he can achieve more with his current club than he did with former side Blackburn, who he helped reach two FA Cup semi-finals and qualify for Europe twice.

He said:"I feel that there's certainly the capacity to do a similar job here and, obviously, I've come in at a better level because the group of players here is better technically than the one I inherited at Blackburn.

"Why can't we achieve regular top-10 positions in the Premier League and, on certain occasions, who knows? Maybe we can push for sixth position, fifth position.

"In terms of achievement, given the resources this club has, it reflects greatly on everybody involved."

Brown dreams of open-top bus | Football News | Sky Sports

Phil Brown broke his Preston duck and is dreaming of an open-top bus parade, while Ian Baraclough admitted Scunthorpe were 'beaten up' after a 3-0 home defeat at the hands of their relegation rivals.

Brown claimed his first victory as North End boss at the 13th time of asking as goals from Keith Treacy, Billy Jones and Iain Hume were enough to see off the sloppy Iron at Glanford Park.

Preston are still propping up the Championship table and remain 10 points from safety ahead of Saturday's home clash with managerless Coventry, but Brown has his sights set on a great escape and ensuing celebrations.

The former Hull City boss, who famously serenaded the KC Stadium with an impromptu karaoke session after keeping them in the Premier League, admits he is facing an even tougher task in his new role.

Brown said:"Pressure does mount but it's pressure that you put yourself under in the pursuit of success.

"The biggest challenge of my career was to get Hull City into the Premier League.

"Now without a shadow of doubt my biggest challenge is to keep Preston North End in the Championship.

"If we can do that then I'll be screaming for an open-top bus at the end of the season. It would be a massive achievement."

Glimpses

Brown says that belief holds the key to his side's survival hopes. He could certainly not fault his players on that score at Glanford Park as they tore into their hosts from the first whistle and could have been 5-0 up at the break with better finishing.

"Belief is such a massive word,"said Brown."It's only six letters but it's such a big word in our game.

"We've got Coventry at Deepdale on Saturday and if we got back-to-back wins then suddenly that belief gets stronger and stronger.

"We've had glimpses of great performances in recent weeks and teams are just starting to respect us.

"We've got to go up another notch now and I think tonight with Iain Hume, Keith Treacy, Chris Brown and Eddie Johnson we would have provided problems for any team in the country.

"But it wasn't just about them. It was a team effort and I'm absolutely delighted with the clean sheet."

Beaten up

Scunthorpe's first-half display was as bad as anything witnessed in the Championship all season and on this evidence they will playing their football in League One next term.

Baraclough's men failed to create a single opening in the first 45 minutes, much to the disgust of the home supporters who booed their team off at half-time and again at the final whistle.

"We got beaten up tonight, plain and simple,"admitted Baraclough."I can fully understand that people are frustrated, of course I can.

"I've been in the game long enough to realise that if you're not getting results then people aren't happy, but I feel I can do the job.

"Tonight we just didn't perform and we were shellshocked to be 3-0 down at half-time.

"Can we stay up? While there are still points to play for I'm confident we've got the right group."

Phillips keen to start | Football News | Sky Sports

Kevin Phillips is hoping for more starting opportunities for Birmingham City following his goal in the FA Cup defeat by Bolton Wanderers.

The veteran striker has started only three games in all competitions this season, but has scored on each occasion for Blues.

His latest effort brought Birmingham level at 2-2 in their cup quarter-final on Saturday only for Lee Chung-yong's late winner to send Bolton into the last four.

Phillips has yet to start a Premier League game this term and is waiting to see if his performance against Bolton will persuade manager Alex McLeish to give him more playing time.

Stronger

The 37-year-old said:"That's three starts and three goals this season, you can't argue with that!

"You'll have to ask the manager if I deserve more games - all I can do is try and do well when I am given the chance.

"I really enjoyed the game, I felt I was getting stronger as it went on."

The Carling Cup winners can now focus on their fight for Premier League survival and Phillips was at least thankful there was no FA Cup replay.

He added:"I suppose if there is anything to come out of it, where we are in the league, at least we haven't got a replay.

"That's a fixture we could have done without."

River admit Lamela struggle | Football News | Sky Sports

River Plate have admitted they are going to struggle to hold onto teenager Erik Lamela.

The 18-year-old has long been touted as one of the most promising players in Argentina after Barcelona tried to sign him when he was 12.

Now he is showing his capabilities having made the breakthrough into the first-team.

A host of clubs are already checking on him with Atletico Madrid leading the chase.

"We all know that it's very difficult to retain for a long time players that have the quality that Erik has,"River coach Juan Jose Lopez stated.

"We all know that a team with a lot of money can take him away at any moment, and nobody, neither the president or me want to stop a player's career.

"If his transfer is something good for River and for the player then I hope he gets transferred to Europe and I wish him all the success. But before that all we want to do is win a title."

Flattered

Lamela admits he is flattered by the news that Atletico have been chasing him.

"It is great that a big European side such as Atletico (Madrid) are watching me, but I am not going to get carried away,"Lamela said inAS.

"The interest is nice and makes me proud but I want to leave as a champion with River (Plate).

"I am dreaming of that and I don't want to go yet. I want to continue playing games and after that we will see what happens.

"I have to stay calm and with my head focused on River."

Harry - Bale the best around | Football News | Sky Sports

Harry Redknapp is confident Gareth Bale can continue to develop at Tottenham Hotspur after describing the Wales international as the 'best left-sider around'.

Bale has been in dazzling form for Spurs over the past 12 months and has been a key figure in the club's maiden UEFA Champions League campaign.

He tore holders Inter Milan to shreds during two meetings in the group phase and has been linked with moves to many of Europe's leading clubs.

However, Redknapp is not worrying about losing Bale and believes the 21-year-old can continue to flourish at White Hart Lane.

Incredible

"He enjoys playing here, they love him here,"said Redknapp."This is a club he can keep developing at.

"If the club want to keep going forward every year you've got to keep players like that because you can't find them.

"I don't think there is a better left-sided player around. He has got everything. He is 6ft 2in tall, the physique on him is incredible, the pace, the ability to cross the ball, shoot, dribble, head it, he can do everything.

"The world sat up and recognised him after what he did to Inter but he has been tearing teams to pieces for over a year. He's done it against everybody, really."

Redknapp is hoping Bale will be fit to be involved in the second leg of the last-16 tie against AC Milan on Wednesday after missing the first meeting with a back injury.

Bale returned as a substitute in the Premier League draw at Wolves on Sunday and Redknapp believes Milan will be worried about the winger, even if he is only on the bench.

He continued:"If Milan see him on the bench it will give them a few concerns.

"I'd love to see him start but he's doubtful at the moment."

Bramble owes Arshavin | Football News | Sky Sports

Sunderland defender Titus Bramble admits Andrey Arshavin's honesty let him off the hook on Saturday.

Bramble formed part of a Black Cats defence over the weekend that held Arsenal to a goalless draw at Emirates Stadium.

It was a backs to the wall effort from the visitors for the most part, with the Gunners dominating possession for long periods.

They were unable to force a breakthrough, though, with the match officials, the woodwork and some resolute defending keeping them at bay.

Arsenal could, however, have had a penalty had Arshavin taken a tumble after being clipped by Bramble inside the box.

Lucky

Instead the Russian stayed on his feet and shot wide, leaving the Sunderland centre-half a relieved a man.

Bramble said afterwards:"Maybe he was a little bit too honest. But I would say it was good defending. I did enough to put him off.

"We could have won it and had some chances, but so did Arsenal. We were a bit lucky.

"I am not going to lie to you, we did a lot of work defensively because last week[against Everton] we were all over the place.

"We have had a bad run of late so it was good to get a point. We have done really well and we have to continue that."

Simpson hails Pardew approach | Football News | Sky Sports

Full-back Danny Simpson has hailed the defensive job Alan Pardew has done since taking over at Newcastle.

The former West Ham boss returned to the Premier League last December following the shock dismissal of Chris Hughton.

Newcastle have lost just once in the league since the turn of the year, away to Fulham, and right-back Simpson feels that is down to Pardew's man-management skills.

"All managers are different. But the one thing that Alan Pardew has worked on is the back four so we all know our individual jobs,"Simpson told theDaily Express.

"We were giving teams far too many chances. He knows with the players we have got we can always score goals, so when he came in he worked a lot on defending.

"I know Newcastle have a reputation for scoring a lot and conceding a lot, but since he came in he seems to have tightened it up a bit.

'Warmed'

"The players have warmed to him, particularly because we are picking up results. Everyone has taken to his ideas and he listens to the players as well.

"You can't say that about every manager. He is honest with you and if he doesn't think you have done well he will tell you, but in a constructive way, not in a nasty fashion."

Newcastle are ninth in the Premier League at present, just three points shy of sixth-placed Liverpool, and five of their remaining games are at St James' Park.

"We are looking up the table. We are no longer looking over our shoulders,"said Simpson, who joined the club from Manchester United in January 2010.

"Our outlook has changed, especially with the amount of home games we have coming up. We have looked at the fixtures and we think we can get the points to continue to push up."

Bendtner up for Barca clash | Football News | Sky Sports

Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner insists he is the man to fire them past Barcelona in next week's UEFA Champions League showdown.

The Gunners travel to Spain next week defending a 2-1 lead from the first leg looking to book their place in the quarter-finals.

Arsenal will be without star striker Robin van Persie at Camp Nou, but Bendtner, who scored a hat-trick in the FA Cup win over Leyton Orient in midweek, believes he can fill Van Persie's boots against Barcelona.

"Can I lead the line against Barcelona? Of course,"said Bendtner."I am now getting back to where I belong and there are still improvements to come.

Dream scenario

"To score again there is the dream scenario. We have to take our chances because Barcelona always score when they play at home.

"I feel that in the last month I have definitely improved. That is due to my injury problems being completely finished.

"Last season I played for a bit when I was half-injured but there was no-one else, so I did my best and got through it.

"It has taken me a long time to get back where I am but I am pleased with my progress and that I have got back to playing the way I want to play."

Sissoko setback for Juve | Football News | Sky Sports

Juventus midfielder Mohamed Sissoko has been ruled out for the rest of the season after undergoing knee surgery.

Sissoko has been troubled by a cartilage problem in his left knee for some time and had an operation in Bordeaux to fix the damage.

The former Liverpool player will now be sidelined for three months, meaning he will play no further part in Juve's bid to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

The 26-year-old's absence is a further blow for Juve coach Luigi Del Neri, who will also be without midfielders Hasan Salihamidzic and Alberto Aquilani for Saturday's match against AC Milan.

Salihamidzic sustained a thigh problem in Tuesday's training session while Aquilani has yet to recover from a muscle injury.

Defender Fabio Grosso is also out for 10 days with a strain in his right thigh and striker Simone Pepe is suspended this weekend.

Juve have lost four of their last six league games and head into this weekend's showdown in seventh position in Serie A, 17 points behind league leaders Milan.
