Fabio - Carroll can handle fee | Sky Sports | Football | News

England coach Fabio Capello has no concerns about Andy Carroll's ability to handle the pressure of being the most expensive British footballer in history.

Carroll joined Liverpool from Newcastle United in a£35million deal on deadline day and will be expected to help fill the void created by Fernando Torres' record departure to Chelsea.

The striker is currently sidelined by a thigh injury and will miss the chance to win his second England cap against Denmark on Wednesday.

The 22-year-old had impressed Capello on his England debut against France back in November and the Italian is confident the powerful forward will not be troubled by his hefty price tag.

Strong mentality

"The fee won't be a problem for him,"said Capello.

"He has a strong mentality. When he played for England, he played without fear and with such a lot of confidence for someone making his first appearance.

"It wasn't an easy game for him either because the team didn't play well. But he was the most important player for us and I am sure he will be okay."

However, while Capello does not believe the fee will be an issue for Carroll, he expects the striker to be under more pressure to deliver the goods at Liverpool than he was at Newcastle.

Capello added:"It is an important move for him. I respect Newcastle a lot but the pressure he will find at Liverpool will be bigger.

"He knows Liverpool are a really important team in the world because they won a lot of titles.

"He is a really good player. At the moment he is young and strong at the moment.

"He has a different style to Torres, but now they have lost him, Carroll will be a very important player for Liverpool."
