Sky Sports Newsunderstands that former Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier has been interviewed for the vacant manager's job at Aston Villa.
The Frenchman is said to be in contention to form a management team with Kevin MacDonald, who is currently in a caretaker role after Martin O'Neill resigned shortly before the start of the season.
Houllier left Liverpool in 2004, having led the Reds to a famous domestic-European Treble in 2001, and went on to take in a spell in charge of Lyon between 2005 and 2007.
Ex-England manager Sven Goran Eriksson and former West Ham and Charlton boss Alan Curbishley are also understood to have been interviewed, but the pair are no longer in contention.
Meanwhile,skysports.comunderstands former Italy coach Roberto Donadoni has applied for the Villa manager's job.
