Harry Redknapp insists Robbie Keane never got as far as discussing terms with Birmingham, despite what they may claim.
The Blues saw a£6million bid for the Irish striker accepted by Tottenham last week, seemingly paving the way for a move to be made.
However, Alex McLeish's side pulled the plug on a deal, citing a failure to meet Keane's personal demands as their reason for stepping aside.
Those claims have come as something of a surprise to Spurs boss Redknapp, as he says the 30-year-old never even met with Birmingham officials.
He feels the Blues have acted in an 'unfair' manner and is at a loss to explain why they felt the need to concoct an elaborate story to try and cover their backs.
Strange
"There was never a deal with Birmingham,"said Redknapp, who is willing to let Keane leave White Hart Lane during the January transfer window.
"He never asked Birmingham for money.
"He never got around to discussing a deal with them so when they said they couldn't meet his wage demands that was totally unfair on Robbie because he never made any demands. He never even spoke to them.
"I don't see how the deal could've fallen down on wage demands when he didn't make any. That's a strange one."
